BlackRock Center for the Arts Presents: "Say It Loud, Play It Loud" – A Weekend Celebration of Culture, Music, Dance, and Film 

January 17-18, 2025





Germantown, MD – Join BlackRock Center for the Arts for Say It Loud, Play It Loud, a powerful and immersive weekend celebration honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on January 17-18, 2025. This event offers an exciting mix of live performances, thought-provoking film screenings, educational workshops, and art exhibitions. The weekend provides an inclusive celebration of culture and creativity, with events designed to engage and inspire. This year’s Say It Loud, Play It Loud expands upon the Say It Loud Film Festival, spotlighting music’s crucial role in social change. Attendees will enjoy a mix of free and ticketed programming, ensuring there’s something for everyone to experience.



Event Highlights:




  • Story Tapestries: Voices of the Civil Rights Movement (January 18, 10:00 AM): An interactive storytelling experience.

  • Film Screenings:

    • AILEY (January 18, 12:45 PM): A documentary on dance pioneer Alvin Ailey.

    • CALL ME DANCER (January 18, 2:30 PM): The story of a dancer from Mumbai overcoming family expectations.

    • STEP (January 18, 4:15 PM): A powerful documentary about the step team at the Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women.

    • FIGHT THE POWER (January 18, 6:00 PM): Explore the relationship between Hip Hop and social change.



  • Art Exhibitions:

    • Rebecca Marimutu: Portrait(s), Divine Mother (January 18 – March 2, 2025): In the Kay Gallery, this exhibition features experimental self-portraits paying homage to Caribbean spirituality and the divine feminine. Reception on January 18 from 5:00–8:00 PM.

    • Dunnie Onasanya: Choose Your Joy (January 14 – February 16, 2025): In Gallery II, this vibrant exhibition invites visitors to explore themes of love, personal growth, and self-expression through symbolism. Reception on January 18 from 5:00–8:00 PM.
